Ok, I’m starting to get excited! Here are some sample SVGs I’m generating:Ģ ops, one to engrave the bullseye and one to cut the squareģ ops, 1 to cut the holes, one to cut the perimeter and one to engrave the entire shape

The colors are set to be visually distinct, which is why I only have 9 or so.

My template also has 9 different solid colors I use to separate everything out. I am using a template that is set to the max size I can cut in my Glowforge. In Illustrator, I lay out my parts and color my operations. I choose mm and then make sure it is set to 1:1. I do not ever have scaling issues because when I import, it asks me the units and the scale. In the meantime, I save out my sketches as SVG files and then import into Illustrator. if you write the post, I’ll help you get it into the Fusion post library! If you have bitmaps, you will surely have to use Illustrator or Inkscape. That is assuming, of course, that your design includes vectors and NO bitmaps. If that worked, you could go straight from Fusion 360 to the Glowforge web interface and skip Illustrator or Inkscape entirely. I like 's idea of a custom post that would color each operation differently. If you recall, the product was a tad bit late to market… When it was written, the Glowforge people were too busy trying to deliver units to help us. So, you would still need Illustrator or Inkscape to separate out each operation. However, it does not color each operation differently. It does include kerf compensation if you set up your “tool” to have the correct kerf. The design intent (sizes of features, placement of components, proximity to other parts, etc.) comes from the top (the assembly) and moves down (into the parts), hence the phrase "top-down".The current Glowforge post processor just creates an SVG. In top-down assembly design, you define the features of a part in relation to elements within an assembly, such as a layout sketch or the geometry of another part. In a top-down approach, you formulate an overview of the assembly, then refine each subassembly and part in greater detail until the entire specification is reduced to base elements. Fusion 360 uses a top-down design approach, in which you break down a system to gain insight into its compositional sub-systems. Finally, you can print a rapid prototype of your design on a 3D printer or generate CAM toolpaths for CNC machines to manufacture your design.

Then communicate your design through photorealistic renderings and animations. You can optimize and validate your design with assemblies, joint and motion studies, and simulations. Since your Fusion 360 designs are stored and shared with your team in the cloud, you can iterate on your design ideas in real-time, which increases team productivity. Explore and refine the form of your design with sculpting, modeling, and generative design tools.
